This is day nine of my look at the twenty three executive orders on gun control enacted by the President.
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
Ok so they trace guns to where? The original owner? I have had a weapon stolen in a break in, and the police couldn’t trace it beyond five sales. So my question is that if they can’t track those stolen, then what good does it do to track backwards? I think this is a means to put the blame for the criminal using the gun back on the original owner. Again putting the emphasis on the gun and not the criminal.
I can see the argument that this would help locate the sources of some weapons, but the ones NOT registered as a sale aren’t going to be able to be traced in the manner this administration wants.
Without further clarification of the underlying motives, I cannot support this order.
